Instructor: Adam Ali
Adam is the true definition of a Maker with experience ranging from upholstery to machining exhaust fittings for light aircraft. He has been tinkering for as long as he can remember and fondly recalls spending summers with his dad and brothers building tree forts, soapbox racers, and bike ramps. Their favorite project? An epic two-floor pallet wood treehouse complete with lights, windows and (of course) a secret escape hatch. He followed his passion through school taking as many courses as he could in woodworking, metal fabrication, music production, and media arts. For the past 10 years, Adam has built skillsets in many disciplines with his favorite being custom car audio fabricator. Adam’s approach to design and making often comes from a need to solve problems that don’t have commercially available solutions.

Can I bring my own wood?
We provide kiln-dried lumber selected for this project. For safety and quality reasons, outside materials aren’t permitted.
What will I make or take home?
This is a skills and process class. You will not take a project home. The lumber you mill is passed forward into the kits used in our Intro to Woodworking class to ensure consistent quality and sizing.
I already have woodworking experience/certification—can I skip the orientation?
We’re glad you’ve got experience, but all users must complete Maker Cube’s Woodworking orientation before using the shop. This session is our shop-specific safety and operations briefing—covering safe setup with guards/riving knife, kickback prevention and safe zones, feed direction, miter saw protocols, dust collection and air quality, PPE, material handling, housekeeping, and shared-space expectations. Even seasoned woodworkers bring habits from other shops; the orientation aligns everyone to our standards so the space stays safe and consistent for all. We’ll pace efficiently for experienced users but completion of our Woodworking orientation is required for authorization.
Will I be signed off to use the big woodworking tools afterward?
This class satisfies the milling portion of our woodworking orientation pathway. Membership will be required for independent shop access; our staff will clarify next steps.
Can I eat during the woodworking class?
For safety (dust, tools, and finishes), no food is permitted in the shop. Please bring a closed-lid water bottle to stay hydrated. We sell small snacks and refreshments at reception—feel free to enjoy them there during our short break.
Where are you located?
We are located at Maker Cube, 5947 206A Street, Langley, BC, in the heart of the Fraser Valley.
Conveniently positioned in Metro Vancouver and the Lower Mainland, our makerspace is easily accessible from Coquitlam, New Westminister, White Rock, Pitt Meadows, Maple Ridge, Mission, Surrey, Abbotsford, and Chilliwack. Where can I park?
Maker Cube’s parking lot has ample space available. Should the lot reach capacity, there is additional street parking along 206A St.
How early should I arrive?
Please arrive 15 minutes early to check in and complete the waiver so we can start on time.
What if I’m late?
Safety instructions are covered at the very beginning of the class. Those who are arriving late may not be admitted to the workshop if they have missed this.
