SUMMARY:Laser Cutting and Engraving
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to customize your projects with the power of laser cutting! Laser cutting is used to add unique designs\, quotes or logos to your work and can cut or etch a wide variety of materials including: acrylic\, wood\, plywood\, MDF\, cardboard\, cork\, mylar and more! \nYou’ll be walked through the design process and learn how to create your very own files then taken on a step by step orientation of how to operate our laser cutter! Completing this class\, you will have made your own integrated hinge box using MDF or acrylic! \nCome to our Laser workshop if: \n\nYou’ve always wanted to fire high powered lasers\nYou want to etch intricate designs into your projects\nYou like making finger pistols and going “Pew! Pew! Previously working in several start-ups\, he has experience in many fields of fabrication both traditional and modern. From molding and casting to 3D printing\, metal fabrication to PCB fabrication\, he has explored a wide range of processes and techniques. With the help of our instructor\, participants will be introduced to Fusion 360\, navigating a 3D workspace and utilizing a variety of modelling tools to design a projects for fabrication. Learning the underlying thought process of how a physical shape can be manufactured will be what participants use to drive their design process. By the end of the class\, everyone will have a basic understanding of how to use the software to design a project for fabrication and can use the resulting files in our other classes;laser cutting\, CNC milling\, 3D printing. \nAbout the Instructor:\nAdam is the true definition of a Maker with experience ranging from upholstery to machining exhaust fittings for light aircraft. He has been tinkering for as long as he can remember and fondly recalls spending summers with his dad and brothers building tree forts\, soapbox racers\, and bike ramps. Their favourite project? An epic two-floor pallet wood treehouse complete with lights\, windows and (of course) a secret escape hatch. \nHe followed his passion through school taking as many courses as he could in woodworking\, metal fabrication\, music production\, and media arts. For the past 10 years\, Adam has built skillsets in many disciplines with his favourite being custom car audio fabricator. SUMMARY:Make Your Own Cutting Board - Introduction to Woodworking (Weekend)
DESCRIPTION:Learn How to Create Your Own Beautiful Maple\, Purpleheart\, and Walnut Cutting Board! \nThis beginner-level workshop will teach you the basics of woodworking\, including safe handling of common tools. You’ll leave with an 8 x 12 inch cutting board that you made yourself. Join us if you’re looking for a fun and creative way to unwind after work!  During this workshop you will learn how to work with hardwood\, glue joints\, use power tools safely\, and shape your project. \nDuration: 3.5 hours – please arrive 15 minutes before the start time to participate\nWeekend Session: 10:30AM – 2:00PM (please note: depending on the participants\, the class may run late and exceed 3.5 hours)\nMaximum # of Participants: 6\nProject: Eastern Maple\, Purpleheart\, & Black Walnut Cutting Board\nDifficulty: Beginner\nAge: 14+ \n**Please note registration closes 24 hours prior to class** \nCome to our workshop if: \n\nYou’re looking for a different way to unwind after work\nYou want to be a part of a community of creatives\nYou love challenging yourself by learning new skills\n\nSkills Learned: \nYou will learn how to work with hardwood\, glue up joints\, using power tools safely\, shape and sand\, and then apply a food safe finish. \nClass Goals: \nBy the end of the class\, participants will be comfortable with the operation of various power tools including a drill press\, band saw\, miter saw\, belt and spindle sander\, and random orbit sander. All participants will be introduced to general woodshop safety and Maker Cube culture. During the class\, everyone will learn about each tool\, and get the opportunity to demonstrate their competency on each tool\, by making their own cutting board. You will be authorized to use the tools independently as a member of Maker Cube at the discretion of the instructor.
