SUMMARY:Laser Cutting and Engraving
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to customize your projects with the power of laser cutting! Laser cutting is used to add unique designs\, quotes or logos to your work and can cut or etch a wide variety of materials including: acrylic\, wood\, plywood\, MDF\, cardboard\, cork\, mylar and more! \nYou’ll be walked through the design process and learn how to create your very own files then taken on a step by step orientation of how to operate our laser cutter! Completing this class\, you will have made your own integrated hinge box using MDF or acrylic! \nCome to our Laser workshop if: \n\nYou’ve always wanted to fire high powered lasers\nYou want to etch intricate designs into your projects\nYou like making finger pistols and going “Pew! Pew! Pew!”\nYou need to precisely cut shapes from sheet materials\n\nDetails: \nDuration: 3 hours \n6:00pm – 9:00pm on weekdays \nMaximum # of Participants: 4 \nProject: MDF or Acrylic laser cut box \nPrerequisites: Basic computer literacy (how to use a computer\, browse the internet\, etc.) required. 2D CAD experience\, drawing with vector programs like Illustrator or Inkscape is a plus! \n**Please note registration closes 24 hours prior to class** \nSkills learned: \n\nTool Safety procedures and routines\nSetting up your design files\nCreating clean cuts for different applications and materials\nOptimizing your time on the machine\n\nEquipment covered: \n\nLaser Cutter\nLaser support systems\n\nSafety First! \n\nSafety Glasses (participants must bring their own eye protection\, if they do not have eye protection a pair of safety glasses can be purchased at Maker Cube’s front counter)\n\nNot a member? If you love the class and want more shop time we offer great incentives for new members on the day of the workshop. Previously working in several start-ups\, he has experience in many fields of fabrication both traditional and modern. From molding and casting to 3D printing\, metal fabrication to PCB fabrication\, he has explored a wide range of processes and techniques. As an enthusiastic learner\, Doug is passionate about passing on the skills he learns\, teaching others to take the leap and trying new things. \nFAQs \nWhat is the age limit for the class? \nThe minimum age for participants is 14. Participants under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian provide supervision during the class. \nWhere can I park? \nMaker Cube’s parking lot has ample space available. Should the lot reach capacity\, there is additional street parking along 206A St. \nHow do I cancel or reschedule a class? \nRefunds or credit for future classes will only be provided if we are notified by email to info@makercube.ca at least 24 hours in advance of the class. No refunds will be provided for late cancellation\, and a re-booking fee of 50% of the cost of the class will be applied to reschedule a class. \nProcessing fees not refunded. \nPlease arrive 15 minutes before the class for sign-in and to ensure it starts on time.
